the internet and the media

I couldn’t tell you how happy I am to have the internet acting as check and balance. For the longest time the media was and to some degree still controlled by a government. You could never trust what you read. People buy two different papers just so they can read between the lines.
People changed their minds on a story three times a week, just because every day the media told a different story, and we had no control over it. It reminded me of George Orwell’s book 1984. People went to work actually to war didn’t know who they were fighting that particular morning.
I like how these days anyone with a cell phone, with a digital camera can really report the truth from anywhere in the world at almost the time of the incident.
I like it because that means the public have more weapons, more support, more knowledge, if we have more knowledge we are more powerful against the giant media.
We became more powerful against propaganda, against manipulation by government agencies, against big giant businesses, who take advantages of the normal public sitting in their houses glued to the TV, or the radios.
For instance I cannot understand why when we, here in the north east, have to be scared from the media when about to experience a snow storm. I mean come on people you don't need to get sooooooooooo scared and go shopping as if you are going to be locked up in your house for a month. I mean who doesn’t have food in his/her house that wouldn’t last at least two to three weeks. Of course I don’t mean fresh veggies, or fresh milk, bread, but BIG deal they probably have tons of canned food, pasta, etc…..they can survive the whole month without leaving the house.
I mean come on media, go home, pack it you had your time, now it is time to get your high horse, and put down the crown.

tending bar

Hello,
I tend bar at the Middle East in Cambridge. This message is intended for the people who don't follow bar rules very well.
First of all have your ID, your money and be ready to order. I cannot stand the people who wave to you from across the other end of the bar and when you get there they keep talking to their friends, girlfriend, whomever while the bartender waits. I won’t do that, I don't have the patience to wait; this is just plain rude, not mention I am losing money. If I ask for your ID, don’t roll your eyes I ignore you next time.
Don't shout, don't call me hey, and don’t call me yo. Don't slam the bar with your fist. You have to worry about only getting your drink, I , on the other hand I have to worry about, you, your drink, the guy next to you, the girl on the other side, the person who might be getting three beers and two shots within 45 minutes(that’s a no no,) I won’t allow that either.
You see my friends I have to worry about you getting little too many, how do you think I would feel if god forbids something happens to you. Its not always about the money. Behave don't swear, and oh yeah give me a big fat tip you will get the best service.
I will leave you with what my friend told me about bartending. He knew all about it before I knew how to pour a beer.
Jean he said: it is not about making a drink, it is about making a drink while watching the drunken ship, while keeping an eye, two, three, all of them all the time on the all the people screaming at you for the drink.
Enjoy, drink smart, and tip well.

where we going???????????????

ok, so whats up with this economy? really i am fed up with working two jobs for the past 6 years to barely hang in there. My father worked really hard in his days, but he only worked one job, built a 4 story house, paid cash for it. OK maybe we didn't have all the gadgets available to us these days, but we didn't need them and we made it alright.
these days almost everyone i know has to have two jobs or else. is this pathetic or what?
the lousy globe paper doubled in price just in 6 or 7 years, maybe less, the electric bill, the insurance, the city taxes, and the list goes on and on, i dont believe anybody's pay doubled just like the above mentioned expenses.
the book : the world is flat by thomas friedman , should be called instead the world is tilted to the east, and folded on us.
please share your thoughts with me.

the internet and its effect.

the scale in the court room says it all. nothing is black and white. the internet did it both ways for me,my friends, and family.
first of all i don't just become friend with someone just because they are friends with someone i know.
i left Lebanon when i was a kid. i don't see my friends, and my relatives as often as i would like to as you might imagine. The internet helps me see my young cousins, where they went to school, what they look like, where they live, etc...it also helped in keeping the cost way down. 24 years ago i used to talk to my family for 10 minutes every three months, because we used to pay AT&T $3 to $4 a minute. these days, i get to read the newspaper, watch TV,talk to my friends all over the world, do my school work, read books, pay my bills online etc..... and the cost ,not a dime over the price of the connection.
i like it, i will not use it in substitution to picking up the phone and calling someone wishing them a happy birthday, or simply to tell them you love them, miss them.
i will vote for the internet everyday of the week.

the burning man

i would like to share with you my experience at the burning man.when i first heard about the burning man, it was about three years ago. Mike, my friend, kept telling me about it.he pushed me, and pushed me to go with him to live the experience of the burning man.
the burning man is a place for participants dedicated to art, community, music, self expression and self reliance. the burning man isn't just a place where a person will attend like a concert, people who attends the burning man are intellectuals, participants, volunteers and who inspire others.the key at the burning man is finding yourself. are you artist, a participant, are you there for a spiritual reason, or simply to socialize.the burning man offers the following: energy like no other place on the planet,a force surrounding you, its an experience like no other, and basically you feel as if you are on a different planet. at the end of the journey, one ask him/herself what did i take with me when i left. i dont mean things, or material stuff, i mean what effect might leave on you when the exodus occurs. are you a better person, will you go and give back to the community of the burning man,????????????

i will post this article on my blog, if you guys have any questions or comments i ll be happy to discuss with you.
thank you

jean

adding images to a blog post

i like this place a lot.its far but not too far, easy to get to,and very very relaxing.once i didnt want to go to the beach , instead i thought what might i like and said i just want some running water, not too steep, or scary for the kids, and then i looked and i asked people about such a place. i was referred by most of them to Diana's bath in New Hampshire.

economy and favorite websites.

i would like to express briefly my opinion about the economy.i am not a democrat nor a republican. everybody is all over this administration regarding how bad the economy is.
it was inherited. also they need to look at a sign in Trenton NJ that says:
Trenton makes , people take.
my friends that says it all.America needs to make things and the rest of the world will take from us.
the corporate greed will never allow this to happen, they will not bring factories and companies back here.
jean.
now to talk about another subject. i like the following web sites.
music of lebanon.com,i like it because it has some of the old school classics, Egyptian,Lebanese,Syrian,etc...  the Naharnet.com , it seems that this news paper is less corrupt than the others.also i like bostoncentral.com, to stay connected to fun for all in and around the Boston area.

links to other sites

hello, as  first time blogger, and a student i am creating links to other sites of interest.
click here to to my neighbor's blog.

internet experience

i am ok using the net, i am just a user, i wanna learn more about it. i do some online banking,i have booked  trips in the past, hotels,  i have done some purchases. i have never done blogging, i am glad i am doing it now.
jean

topics that interest me.

i am pretty much open to lots and lots of things.  i like to know about great books, live music, places to visit and to experience. i am no longer crazy about traveling to just sit in a resort 7 days a week, i wanna blend in with the locals.  i went to Hawaii, i thought it was over rated. i would much rather go to a no name place , beach or mountain, no difference, and just mingle with the people.so if you can write about topics that i mentioned i would appreciate it.
thank you
jean
