the scale in the court room says it all. nothing is black and white. the internet did it both ways for me,my friends, and family.
first of all i don't just become friend with someone just because they are friends with someone i know.
i left Lebanon when i was a kid. i don't see my friends, and my relatives as often as i would like to as you might imagine. The internet helps me see my young cousins, where they went to school, what they look like, where they live, etc...it also helped in keeping the cost way down. 24 years ago i used to talk to my family for 10 minutes every three months, because we used to pay AT&T $3 to $4 a minute. these days, i get to read the newspaper, watch TV,talk to my friends all over the world, do my school work, read books, pay my bills online etc..... and the cost ,not a dime over the price of the connection.
i like it, i will not use it in substitution to picking up the phone and calling someone wishing them a happy birthday, or simply to tell them you love them, miss them.
i will vote for the internet everyday of the week.
I agree Jean. It is amazing what can be done on the internet these days. Not only can we communicate with friends and family, but we can also take online courses, do homework, pay bills, read magazines, etc. While there may not be as much face to face conversation, it actually helps in a lot of instances. We are able to read our bank statements without having to go through the trouble in talking to someone on the phone or mailing our check in the mail. We can work on college classes without having the trouble to actually get up and physically go to class. It is a whole world within the internet.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the internet is a great way to communicate thats for sure but sometimes i wonder if most life aspects were easier without it!
